DAVID E. LEIDHOLDT
DIRECTOR - PRODUCER - TEACHER
David has been a Director, Producer, Artistic Director and Teaching Artist working in and around the New York City area since 1993. In 1996 he he started working as a freelance Director Choreographer for the American Family Theatre in Philadephia eventually becoming the Artistic Director in 2007. American Family Theatre is a national tour theatre company which produces curriculum based theatre for young audience for over 40 years. Also in 2007 he helped to create the ReVision Theatre is Asbury Park, NJ. As Co-Artistic Director he was able to produce and develop 4 seasons of new and classic musical theatre with a fresh perspective including; Kingdom a new musical based on the Latin Kings (Winner Best Best Musical New Jersey Star Ledger), The Breakup Notebook a Lesbian Musical (Winner Best Best Musical New Jersey Star Ledger), The Rocky Horror Show (Year End Best Award New Jersey Star Ledger and Tri City News), Hello Dolly staring Richard Skipper and regional premieres of Xanadu and Spring Awakening.
Mr. Leidholdt was a founding producer for The New York Musical Theatre Festival and helped to bring to fusion such shows as; [Title of Show], Alter Boyz, Rooms and Next to Normal.
In New York he have been involved in the direction and development of several new musicals and plays including: Intervention (NYMF/winner Moss Hart Award), The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (MITF), Wuthering Heights (Mint Theatre) Time and the Sea (Theatre 3), Circle based on La Ronde and Twin Studies (winner Off-off Broadway Review Award).
In addition to his work as a Artistic Director he has been a teacher working with young actors for the past 25 years teaching in such established institutions as the Professional Performing Arts School and The Actors Institute in New York City, Stagedoor Manor, Interprovinicial Musical Theatre in Canada, Cranbrook Theatre School and Ohio Northern University.
He has been honored to be a member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society since 2001 and an alumni of The Lincoln Center Directors Lab in 2000 and 2001. Studied Directing at Playwrights Horizons Professional Program and The Actors Institute and hold a BFA from the University of Detroit.
